HUNTING IN CALARASI
Area description

Lying in southeastern Romanian plane, the area Călăraşi has a spectacular landscape, framed by waters (Borcea on the left, Old Danube on the right), and between them there is the Great Island of Ialomita .
As it is near the Danube, it creates a special tourist activity, still not sufficiently exploited. The large numbers of islands form an unseen picturesque; the branching of watercourses in single arms creates a natural frame that leads to relaxation, as well as ideal conditions for practicing hunting and sport fishing .
The names of the 3 natural reservations are well known: the island Ciocăneşti, the island Harambie and the island Soimul (the Hawk).
Terrific areas - intensely populated by silvan vegetation, unique flora and fauna in the country – makes the region look much alike the DANUBE DELTA, but more exciting because of the wilderness and virgin configuration of places, some of them untrodden by man.
Game resources are inexhaustible and extremely different.
The area advantages are all the more special as the place is less than 130 km from Bucharest and Constanţa, and the access is very easy from Autostrada Soarelui (Sun Highway)

Tourist attractions in the area:
*the Island Pacuiul lui Soare (Sun Island) where the ruins of the former medieval fortress for area defense are kept in the original state
*the Monastery Dervent and the cave Saint Andrew: ancient worship places, extremely visited by pilgrims
* the Monastery Radu Negru built on brick on rock basis, Byzantine architecture.
